How It Works

Think of Myofunctional Therapy as physical therapy for the face. It helps restore the foundations of healthy facial function and airway mechanics, including:

  • Proper tongue posture
  • Nasal breathing
  • Lip seal
  • Optimal chewing and swallowing patterns

When these essential functions are restored, many of the symptoms you’re experiencing can significantly improve or even be completely resolved.

Unlike medications, expensive sleep devices, or invasive procedures, Myofunctional Therapy addresses the root causes of dysfunction in a natural, non-invasive way.

Live life in alignment
The role of the tongue

Your tongue does far more than help you eat and speak. It plays a vital role in supporting your jaw stability, head posture, and spinal alignment. When it rests naturally against the roof of your mouth (the palate), it acts as an internal anchor, helping to align the bones of the jaw, head, and spine, which supports your overall posture.

But posture isn’t the only thing affected.

Proper tongue position also helps keep teeth in place, supports a functional bite, and even contributes to nervous system regulation. By gently stimulating the vagus nerve, a well-positioned tongue can promote a sense of calm, focus, and balance. On the flip side, when the tongue falls low or forward (often from mouth breathing or a tongue tie), it can lead to feelings of anxiety, overwhelm, and mental fog, affecting every area of life.

Who is Kayla?

Kayla Fomin is a dental hygienist and myofunctional therapist specializing in sleep and breathing disorders.

After years in clinical practice, she discovered what she felt was the missing link in dentistry: myofunctional therapy.

“Jaw pain, teeth grinding & clenching and narrow palates are all signs of a deeper issue. People need to understand the downstream effects of dysfunctional breathing and low tongue posture on every body system but especially the nervous system."
